ANY food can make us fat. It's always about calories in vs calories out. You have to determine a caloric value for YOU. Everyone has a different value. And either stay at that level or eat below it.

Equally if not more important, is the content of those calories. Lets say your caloric needs are 1500 calories. If you ate 1500 calories from brown rice all day your body would look horrible eventually. BUT if you ate 650 calories from Chicken (protein) and 650 calories from almonds (good fats) and 200 calories from Brown rice (good carbs) your body would way better as a result.
References :
Anything fried or refined is going to be bad for you. Cheeses and processed foods should be out if you're looking to loose weight. Substitute fresh, natural ingredients instead! When grocery shopping stick to the outside of the store, and if you need to buy things that are prepackaged READ THE LABELS! Check out what constitutes a serving of the food (ie with chips it is often 28 chips, salad dressings are often 1-2 tbsp) and decide whether or not that would satisfy you. Stay away from foods with more than 30% calories from fat, all trans fats and foods with too much sodium.
You should find that when eating the suggested amount of servings of each food type from Canada's food guide (http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/food-guide-aliment/index-eng.php) should leave you feeling full and satisfied and not craving any unhealthy fried foods! Remember, anything in moderation is okay occasionally - just watch your serving sizes!
Good luck!
References :
Anything with gluten is fattening. Gluten is flour so bread, hamburgers, pasta, spaghetti, So anything made out of wheat.
If you want to loose wight go on a Gluten free diet they are awesome. I replaced most of the gluten with rice. I lost 9kg in 3 months. I eat gluten like once a week you know toast or pizza with friends but thats it and then I go without it. Soda drinks can bloat you and are in excess of sugar so try to stay away from them. Fruit juices have a lot of artificial sugars so drink the natural stuff. and also drink lots of water there is no fat in there
